Edward D. Berkowitz was born on January 11, 1950 in Passaic, New Jersey. He received his AB from Princeton University, 1972; received MA from Northwestern University in 1973; and Ph.D. in American History from Northwestern University in 1976. Berkowitz was Assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, 1977-1980.
